Society of Petroleum Engineers
Mission: to providing professional, educational and cultural support in the community and promotes educational development programs that support the advancement of its members.
The Society of Petroleum Engineers is “the largest individual-member organization serving managers, engineers, scientists and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry.” The oil and gas industry is vital to the world in which we live. Over 50% of the energy consumed in the foreseeable future will be oil & natural gas. This presents huge problems that will need to be tackled by the engineers of the future.
That is where our student chapter comes in. The purpose of the SPE student chapter is to provide an opportunity for students to learn about the oil & gas industry as well as for them to explore possible career choices for life after college. It is an exciting time in the industry as many changes are taking place. Plus with a lot of people retiring, there is a great opportunity for young engineers to start a career in a cutting-edge, high tech field where they will be helping to provide the energy needed for the future of our planet.
All engineering (and other) majors are welcome to learn about oil & gas, the industry is vast and all engineering disciplines are present, from mechanical, civil, chemical, even aerospace engineering! Computer science and software are becoming increasingly utilized by companies so those majors are important to the industry as well.
